Since we never really take any days off here in ArchosLounge, we decided to take profit of a trip in French Province to make a connection test with an Archos 604 and one of the few Citroën C6 sold (or rather bought…) so far…

The model I disposed of had indeed a GPS with a central screen and RGB connection inside the glove compartment. Thus, I just couldn’t miss this beautiful opportunity to try the 604/C6 duo… integrating a 604 into a C6, isn’t it a wink to Peugeot SA ?

On the program : pictures of the wiring and a video of the test.

In practice, the result turned out to be conclusive : the wiring is obviously trivial, the audio/video inputs’ setting on the console is easy to use, the 604’s little speaker is happily replaced by the car’s sound system, and the screen - which quality is far from being equal to the 604’s – offers lightly larger dimensions, and its central position in the passenger compartment allows both persons in the front to obtain a relatively comfortable view.

Note that the video stream is automatically turned off when the car exceeds about 10 mph, for obvious security reasons. As for the audio stream, it can remain activated permanently and allow you listening to your music library.
In the end, the whole combination is perfectly operational, even if it is obviously impossible to control the Archos PMP directly from the steering wheel’s remote or the central console (when will come the day of Archos partnerships with car manufacturers ?).

In fact, the only real problem, for a driver, is to get the opportunity to view a video inside his or her car… Meanwhile, the PMP will prove to be an excellent source for one’s car sound system…
Next time, we will test the 604 with a Class E…
