Let’s be fair : Archos has improved a lot in this domain lately, but it remains very basic. However, the interface of the 605 is very efficient, and in the end, this is all that we’re asking for. But, as well as design, interface really impresses customers’ minds, and that is undoubtedly Apple’s territory.
Let’s just use plain words : browsing the iTouch is wonderful ! Apple made the most of its touch screen : zooming on photographs using double-pinch (spreading two finger open), double-tapping to play a video in full screen or in optimized display, fulling-controlable photo viewer scrolling... While Archos only offers a one-finger interface.
There is no competition for graphics. The menus of the Archos is mundane, it looks like those of the chinese nonames which flood the cheap PMP market. Apple has mobilized their whole Graphics Department to create an interface which corresponds to their reputation, an the iTouch benefits from a mobile version of Mac OS X...
In terms of launching times, both PMPs have similar performances. Archos has made huge effort for the user not to have to wait too long for his PMP or Opera to launch.
