Archos has for years now been developing a particular infatuation for photographs, so that Archos’ photo viewer now is a reference for amateur photographers... What about that of the iPod ?

The A1pple lets you select an album, an then choose your photograph in a list. You mayrotate your iPod to rotate your photograph. You may of course zoom in or out with the double-pinch or double-tap. Zooming is very smooth. Using your finger to "flick through" the screen starts a scrolling effect than you can stop or invert whenever you like. But other there are not many features left after that. Transitions are nice, but few, and edition possibilities are very limited.

For the 605, while scrolling and other show-off features are not present, you may however sort your photographs by date and/or by directory, or access the UpNp networks. Tapping the thumbnail will at forst slightly enlarge it, and will then have the photograph displayed in fullscreen. You may rotate it, use it as a wallpaper or access photo characteristics such as, resolution, size, file type, date of shooting, exposure time, aperture... A marvel for any amateur photographer ! You can "flick through" the photographs thanks to the touch screen, but you may not stop the scrolling once it has started. If you want to go back, you’ll have to wait for the Archos to completely dispay the photograph first.

You may of course start a slideshow with more numerous transitions than on the iTouch. Note that thanks to the purchase of a mini-dock, you may transfer you files dorectly from you Camera to your Archos, and dispaly your photographs on TV (No such accessory is available for the iPod).
